Partha Chatterjee
Bio
Partha Chatterjee is a leading economist and educationist based in India. A Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota USA, Professor Chatterjee’s research interests are broadly in macroeconomics, international economics, and issues related to emerging economies. His current research focuses on understanding economic performance abd dynamics in India and other emerging economies.
He has published in top journals and regularly and he regularly speaks in conferences and workshops. He contributes opinion pieces to leading newspapers and magazines and has participated in discussions on TV and radio like BBC World News, CNBC, Zee Business, Korean Radio Channel TBS, etc.
He is currently a Professor of Economics at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. Previously, Professor Chatterjee was a faculty member at NUS Business School, National University of Singapore; and Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi - India.
He completed his M.Phil. in Economics from IGIDR, Mumbai and M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Physics from Jadavpur University.
He also has a keen interest in issues related to higher education, particularly in India, both intellectually and as a practitioner. As the inaugural Head of the Department of Economics at Shiv Nadar University, he has built up a stellar department. He has recruited world class faculty members, established the B.Sc. (Research) and M.Sc. in economics as one of the best in the country. He has conceived, planned and launched a multidisciplinary program, B.Sc. (Research) in Economics and Finance.
Also, as the first Dean for International Partnerships at the university, he has created the office of international partnerships and shaped the strategy for global engagement for the university. In a short period, coinciding mostly with disruptions caused by Covid, he has forged several research partnerships across the globe, increased opportunities for student mobility, including a rather unique internship exchange. He has also conceived and started the Beyond Boundaries series, a platform to engage with leading scholars and academic leaders across the world.
